The 2008 Human Rights Watch Report & Iran

Following a recent report by Human Rights Watch, the European Parliament called on Iran to recognized the rights of its minorities and to put an end to executions and torture in its prisons. The report also include details on tragedies committed by the state officials against Afghans, Arabs, Baha’is, Christians, Jews, Kurds, and minors among others. As human rights abuses in Iran continue to intensify on all fronts, the report points out that Western states continue to ignore these tragedies and so in effect, allow this process to go on.

The report also notes positive developments by highlighting the fact that two abusive leaders, Alberto Fujimori and Charles Taylor, the former presidents of Peru and Liberia, will face trials for human rights abuses this year.
